Educator’s Edge

Making Content Count

Our students are constantly looking for connections. They want to know why this is important? Will I ever use this information in the future? The days of “just sit, be quiet and learn” are gone.

Taking content/concepts and connecting it with real world relevance and relatability is the way to go. Our students need to know that school-related learning is inherently tied to skills necessary for success in the real world, and the information they receive is transitional.

Tips:

  • In your lesson plans, connect concepts with real world application.

  • Use examples and allow students to apply new concepts in a practical, relevant way.

  • Challenge students to find real world connections for concepts they have learned.

Relevance
Brings about the feeling of importance or necessity

Relatable
Provides connectivity and realigns content as information that resonates with the receiver.
